Azure safe from #Heartbleed

14 04 2014

heartbleedFor those of you running secure web sites on the Azure platform you may wonder are you safe? Generally the answer is yes because “Microsoft Azure Web Sites, Microsoft Azure Pack Web Sites and Microsoft Azure Web Roles do not use OpenSSL to terminate SSL connections”.

However “OpenSSL is a common library on Linux for providing encryption functionality.  Customers running Linux images in Azure Virtual Machines, or software which uses OpenSSL, may be vulnerable”.

For more information see: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazure/archive/2014/04/09/information-on-microsoft-azure-and-heartbleed.aspx

Also the LastPass site has a useful blog: http://blog.lastpass.com/2014/04/lastpass-and-heartbleed-bug.html and also a SSL checker https://lastpass.com/heartbleed/

Nokia Lumia 920: Nokia Drive Beta

7 04 2014

The new Lumia 920 has navigation software (Nokia Drive Beta). I tested it today (December 2012) in the car while my wife done the driving.

We were going about 30 miles to visit our local IKEA. The Nokia Drive Software was up against a TomTom GO LIVE 825 Satellite Navigation System. I was very impressed with the predicated time for the Nokia was closer than the TomTom. However I think the Nokia may have taken a slightly slower route towards the end.

Although it was just one trip based on my experience they both did a good job. However if you are thinking about buying a the GPS for the car why bother get a Nokia Lumia.
